01 — The Mix

Domestic gas consumption could account for ~60% of total gas demand by 2030 — driven mainly by the power sector.

02 — The Trajectory

Between 2020 and 2030, domestic demand's share of the mix could grow from ~30% to ~60%.

Domestic (high case)
Export (high case)
2010 → 2020. Gas demand grew at an average of 3.3% p.a., driven largely by growth in domestic demand — in turn driven by improved Domestic Supply Obligation fulfilment (22% vs 33%).
2020 → 2030. Demand is expected to grow at about 16.6% p.a., driven by major projects such as NLNG T7 in the base case, and the Nigeria/Morocco pipeline, NLNG T8, and AKK-pipeline related projects in the high case.
Decade of Gas target. Delivering the decade-of-gas growth target will require enablers — infrastructure, GSAs, and financing among others — to ensure projects are executed.
03 — The Network

Wave 1 projects, prioritised by scale, impact, infrastructure proximity, and maturity, will add ~7.4 bcfd by 2030.

150 new demand projects identified through initial engagement (~21 bcfd) → shortlisted to 75 (~15 bcfd) on scale, impact, and infrastructure proximity → refined to 60 (~7.4 bcfd) through in-person validation workshops. Every state is on the board — filter by category, then click a lit tile.

Key insights
  • Demand concentrated near gas fields, major population/industrial hubs, and transmission corridors.
  • Export LNG/FLNG represents the largest share of Wave 1 demand, sited near major gas-producing hubs in the Niger Delta.
  • GBI (fertiliser & methanol) projects concentrate in the south, close to feedstock.
  • Industrial parks & gas distribution projects run primarily along the AKK pipeline corridor.

04 — By Sector

Domestic gas demand is predominantly driven by power and industrial-park development; export demand by NLNG Train 7 and FLNG.

2025 → 2030 demand by sector, bcfd. Bars scale to the 2030 overall total (15.7 bcfd); the dark tick marks the 2025 baseline.

Domestic — ~8.5 bcfd by 2030
Export — ~7 bcfd by 2030

Actual 2025 domestic consumption stands at 2.1 bcfd (47% of the projection). Power continues to drive domestic demand alongside new industrial parks — IPPs in Abuja, Kano and Kaduna, Egbin II and other power projects. Gas-based industries are driven by projects like NSIA-OCP Ammonia and fertiliser plants. Export LNG demand is driven by NLNG Train 7 and emerging projects like Riverside LNG; FLNG demand by projects such as the UTM FLNG project and other modular export facilities.

05 — The Registry

60 priority demand projects in Wave 1 could require up to ~7.4 bcfd — export LNG/FLNG and industrial parks make up the majority.
